Dirk Dzimirsky is an absolutely incredible artist. Someday I hope to be this good. Go look at his work!!!

I'm ready to trash the drawing I have been working on for the last several days. Why? Because of the paper! It's funny when something as basic as the surface of your drawing can cause so many problems. I usually use a cold press extra smooth bristol for most of my drawings but I decided to break out an old sketch pad and try my hand on something with a bit more texture. Unfortunately the result has been wasted time. Probably wouldn't have had such a problem if I had used charcoal or softer pencils rather than my mechanical pencils.
My question is what paper/pencil combo do most people use around here?
